“No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal  hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts  of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for  our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to  me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and  gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the  whole American People.”

So wrote President Abraham Lincoln, as he dedicated the last Thursday in November of 1864 to be a national ”day of thanksgiving and praise.”  Prior to Lincoln’s proclamation, each state scheduled its own Thanksgiving holiday at different  times, and many did not even have one.

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday – hands down.  Maybe it’s the closeness of family.  Maybe it’s the food.  Maybe it’s the calm before the storm that I like to fondly refer to as ”the silly season.”  For whatever reason, it’s my favorite day of the year.

Here are 23 great and unique perspectives on thankfulness and gratitude.  Whether you are celebrating the holiday this week in the U.S. or living somewhere else around the globe entirely, we wish you a peaceful and grateful rest of the week.
